  • About

Also Physalis (New Zealand marketing name), Ground Cherry, Husk Tomato, Strawberry Tomato, Golden Berry, Golden Husk, and Poha

It is certainly a circuitous path that has led this intriguing berry to our door. A South American native, this member of the prolific Solanaceae family, sister to the tart little Mexican tomatillo (Physalis ixocarpa) has long been running wild far and wide. Finally settling down to cultivation in South Africa, Hawaii (as poha), India, New Zealand, Australia, and China, the golden berry has been sent to us (at a staggering price) by those same folks who brought us the kiwi.
