Although this fruit has come to be associated with Latin cuisine (probably because of the delicious and readily available Hispanic products canned guava nectar and guava paste), it flourishes around the globe. Native to Brazil, where they are still raised in considerable quantity, guavas are also commercially important in Hawaii, Australia, India, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, South Africa, and in lesser degree in areas of Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, and a few isolated groves in Florida and California.
