Perigord or Black Truffle

Tuber melanosporum It can grow up to 15 cm (6 in) across but is not found in the British Isles and in the areas where it is found, mainly in France, it is much protected – in fact if you go digging in someone’s special truffle plot you stand a chance of getting shot. In season they can be found for sale in many markets in southern France.
