Macrolepiota rhacodes, illustrated above. Rather smaller and shorter-stemmed than the ordinary parasol mushroom and when cut or damaged, the flesh quickly turns pink. It is found in woods and gardens, often on rubbish heaps, from summer to autumn. Excellent to eat and can be cooked in the same way as parasol mushrooms, or else rapidly fried in butter with onion.
