Lepista nuda The main distinctive feature is the purple gills; the cap may have purple or brown colours and can be a little sticky in wet weather. Common, and in some years prolific, in beech woods, the season occurs at the end of autumn to early winter in woods, hedges and gardens. It has a strong perfumed smell which tends to persist in cooking. This mushroom should not be eaten raw.
