Armillaria mellea Cap and stem more or less honey coloured, there is a distinct ring on the stem usually covered in scales. They grow in large clumps at the base of trees (sometimes on the underground roots), usually trees that are dead or dying. This is the most well-known mushroom associated with the death of trees and shrubs. There are three or four different forms and some forms have been known to cause stomach upsets in some people, so when you first try it only take a small portion.
