  • About

Stellaria media An annual or overwintering herb abundant throughout the British Isles, which occurs on cultivated ground and waste places. Chickweed can be found all the year round but is not worth using in high summer when it becomes straggly and dusty. It comes into its own with the onset of autumn and often remains in good condition until destroyed by heavy frosts. A fine new growth starts at the very beginning of spring.

The whole plant can be eaten. Gather using scissors rather than pulling it up, pick clean and lay neatly in a basket as this saves much preparation time later on.
