  • About

Halimione portulacoides Sea purslane can be found in abundance on salt marshes below the high tide mark and especially fringing channels and pools there. It flowers from July to September.

When collecting sea purslane good wellington boots are an essential piece of equipment as it often grows in clumps surrounded by deep, treacherous mud. It is a bit fiddly to wash and clean away the old weed from the leaves but their interesting flavour as a vegetable makes it well worthwhile. Nice leaves can be found at almost any time during the year.
