  • About

Spain’s most characteristic barrel is the butt used for sherry. The American oak barrels used in rioja, and elsewhere, are 225-l/60 gal barricas bordelesas modelled on Bordeaux barriques. Spanish cooperage can vary considerably in size and shape, however, and new wood has only relatively recently been prized.
