This 2013 appellation replaced Bourgogne Grande Ordinaire, applying to minor Burgundy vineyards, growing aligoté, Chardonnay, melon de bourgogne, Pinot Blanc, and/or Pinot Gris for whites, and Gamay, Pinot Noir, and césar (in the Yonne) for reds. The key to this is the inclusion of the Gamay grape because the rules for beaujolais allow de- or re-classification as Coteaux Bourguignons.
