French and occasional English name for the sheath over the top of a cork and bottle-neck, otherwise known as a foil, just as the capsule cutter is more widely known as a foil cutter. French wine released for sale within France must have its capsules embossed with a customs seal, known as a capsule CRD or capsule congé. The regulation requiring producers to use a different seal for exported wines was dropped in 2011.
