Costa Rica, in Central America saw its first commercial winery and limited plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Grenache in late 2011 above the small city of Copey at an elevation of 2,000 m/6,560 ft. Expertise was imported from Napa Valley.
