Gamaret, red grape cross bred in Switzerland by André Jaquinet at changins from Gamay and Reichensteiner. The variety, which has good rot resistance, makes quite powerful structured wines and total Swiss plantings had reached nearly 400 ha/988 acres by 2009. It is more popular than fellow cross garanoir, is authorized in Beaujolais, and occasionally found in Italy.
