This term is often used interchangeably with vine varieties since different varieties of vine have predictably different grapes or berries. The effect of grape varieties on wine quality is discussed under vine varieties. Different varieties of vine produce grapes with very different and distinct characteristics (many of them outlined here under the names of individual varieties). Wines made predominantly from a single grape variety, usually specified on the label, are called varietal wines.
See under the names of individual varieties. Specialized varieties are listed for both table grapes and drying grapes.
