(IT) has revolutionized the world of wine as much as any other. Computers are now used throughout the production process. In the vineyard they can schedule and control irrigation, for example, or measure weather and predict and even control spraying regimes. They can assist vineyard site selection by analysing and mapping data on climate, soil, vigour, and topography. By monitoring, for example, water stress or fertilization needs in different parts of a vineyard, IT can help control wine quality and berry size, and in the long term can contribute towards sustainability. In the winery, IT can weigh and sample grapes, sort them, control crushing and pressing operations, ensure the most vigilant temperature control, and eventually oversee bottling.
