Lladoner Pelut

Lladoner Pelut or Lledoner Pelut, the downy-leaved variant of grenache also known as grenache Poilu or Velu in the south of France and garnacha Peluda or Lledoner Pelut in Spain. Both vine and wine closely resemble Grenache Noir except that it is less susceptible to coulure and therefore yields more consistently and, usefully, reaches physiological ripeness at lower sugar levels. It is officially and widely sanctioned in Languedoc-Roussillon, often being specified in appellation regulations alongside Grenache. But by 2011 France’s total had fallen to 366 ha/904 acres, largely in Roussillon while Spain grew 574 ha/1,418 acres, mainly in Castilla-La Mancha and it is also grown in Spanish Cataluña. varietal versions are rare.
