  • About

Midway between the equator and the North Pole, Nova Scotia in canada has a notably short growing season which restricts the number of varieties that can be ripened in the Annapolis Valley and Northumberland Strait. Plantings, which totalled 750 acres in 2014, include local speciality l’acadie, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir (for sparkling wine), Riesling, Vidal, Seyval Blanc, and DeChaunac. The relatively new Tidal Bay appellation has particularly strict regulations. The region is known for classic sparkling, crisp aromatic whites, late harvest and Icewines, and fruit wines to which four of the 18 wineries are exclusively devoted.
