Pinot Chardonnay is an old synonym for chardonnay, the classic white grape of Burgundy. It was adopted at a time when Chardonnay was believed to be a white mutation of pinot noir (correctly, as it turned out—see pinot). Pinot Chardonnay-Mâcon has been an appellation recognized by inao as virtually interchangeable with mâcon Blanc but is not often seen.
