Pomerol is produced from a steady 800 ha/2,000 acres of vineyard on a plateau immediately north east of libourne that is as geographically unremarkable as the médoc, but without even any buildings or historical landmarks of note. A confusing network of narrow lanes connects about 150 smallholdings, most of which produce only a few thousand cases of wine a year in one of the world’s most monocultural landscapes.
