Roussette, former name for the altesse grape of savoie now used for a number of wines made in eastern France.
Roussette de Savoie is the Savoie appellation for whites made exclusively from Altesse. In good vintages, they age well and some producers now ferment and/or age in oak. Four crus’ names may be suffixed to the appellation: Frangy, Monterminod, Monthoux, and most notably Marestel, a steep south-facing slope in the village of jongieux that yields exceptionally ripe fruit.
Roussette de Seyssel is a seyssel wine made from Altesse. In the nearby Ain département, Roussette du Bugey may be followed by the names of two crus, Virieu-le-Grand and the more notable Montaigneu.
