Vespaiola, white wine grape speciality of Vicenza in the veneto region of north-east Italy, said to take its name from the wasps (vespe) attracted by the sugar levels of its ripe grapes. Its most famous product is the Torcolato sweet wine of breganze, although in this Vespaiola is blended with Tocai and Garganega, and the dried-grape winemaking technique may well be the most important ingredient. As a dry white wine, Vespaiolo is acidic and neutral. Total plantings were just 94 ha/232 acres in 2010.
