vineyard weather stations, contain a number of electronic instruments to measure the climate within a vineyard. Normally they comprise sensors for sunshine, air and soil temperatures, wind speed and direction, humidity, rainfall, leaf wetness, and occasionally evaporation. Data are stored in a data logger which may be downloaded to a portable computer, or remotely interrogated by a computer over a wireless or cable telephone connection or may be available via the Internet. Such weather stations are used primarily for disease prediction, especially for fungal diseases such as downy mildew and powdery mildew, and also for predicting vine phenology.
