Oxford Companion to Wine

  • About

winemaker, one who makes wine. In its broadest sense, the term includes those who engage in home winemaking as a hobby, although in a professional sense a winemaker is someone employed (sometimes by themselves) to produce wine. An increasing proportion of such people recognize that wine production includes every aspect of vineyard management, and there are wine producers all over the world whose production is so small that they personally conduct, or at least oversee, every stage from planting to marketing.
