Vineyard yield depends on many factors, which will be briefly described here. For a more complete discussion, see the individual factors listed.

Yield may be measured as either a weight of grapes or a volume of wine (see below), and is usually considered per unit area of vineyard, since this is what matters in agricultural terms. Those who believe that increasing vine density is associated with improved wine quality argue that yield per vine is a more important consideration. Disciples of canopy management, on the other hand, argue that the amount of sunlit leaf area per unit of land is more important than yield per vine. or per hectare
