As serious as we are about our craft at Ample Hills, we never forget why we make ice cream. For the kids. For your kids, for our kids—and for the kids inside all of us.
Our first scoop. Our first cone. Our first sundae. Perhaps it’s these memories we’re in search of when we dig into a pint of ice cream as adults, trying to reconnect to the children we used to be.
When we started brainstorming ways to make this cookbook echo that philosophy, we wanted to rework the antiquated Mommy-and-Me approach. How can our kids, and your kids, be involved in the kitchen without being in the way? How can we help them make memories that they’ll hold on to throughout their lives? Making ice cream, toffees, and swirls is pretty complicated and can sometimes be very dangerous. Little hands have no place near molten sugar! So we have highlighted kid-friendly tasks and activities that can engage the little ones in making the recipe (and keep them at a safe distance from the stove).
