The pulse of the bakery beats fast on weekends when it is jam-packed with folks dropping by to gather, eat, and linger while enjoying our Southern-inspired sweets and savory bites. I still find the most joy when I see families stopping in for an afternoon treat. I love seeing the children press their faces against our glass cases to get a closer look at all the goodies inside.
One of my favorite moments happened on a recent busy Saturday afternoon. When the dining room is buzzing like this, I like to walk through the bakery to say hi to our guests and friends. On that day, I heard the tiniest voice rise above the clamor, calling my name. Drawing out every syllable, she said, “Hiiiiiii, Miss Cher-rrryl.” I looked over and saw one of my favorite customers sitting with her mom, with an enormous cookie that she could barely hold and an even bigger smile on her face. I sat for a few minutes to chat with her about her day and her “yummy” snack. She was very happy that I took a moment to visit with her, and so was I.
