In vieux (old) Nice, just a few roads back from the seafront, sits this small, compact and simple bistro serving rustic, peasant Niçoise food at its very best. The chef Dominique le Stanc is a gentle and quiet man who left the amazing Négresco Hotel’s Chantecler restaurant as he felt he was losing touch with food and just organizing his brigade of chefs. So 11 years ago he opted out and brought La Merenda. He changed nothing from the previous owner except the paintings on the wall. Dominique did not have to buy replacements; local, well-known artists gave him new artwork — maybe in return for a few meals!
