In a former life, before The Star, I was having lunch at the eccentric Eugene McCoy’s Cleveland Tontine, just off the scenic A19, when I noticed the fish merchant delivering his catch to the kitchens of the Tont. Hodgsons of Hartlepool was the name, so when I returned to the Milburn Arms, I scanned the Yellow Pages and gave him a call. I remember Alan saying that it was a bit out of his way (Rosedale was a bit out of anyone’s way!!), but he said that he would deliver, and from that point onwards we’ve always had a great relationship. The quality of the produce that we buy from him is exceptional.
