  • About
Most recipes in this book will produce beer ranging from 4% to 5.5% alcohol by volume (ABV), but there are too many random factors to give exact percentages for each beer. To find out the strength of your brews you’ll need to take a hydrometer reading before adding yeast, and another before bottling. There are numerous online calculators that use these figures to determine your beer’s ABV percentage, but as a guide we’ve given you three examples:
  • Original gravity – 1.040; final gravity – 1.010; alcohol – 3.94%
  • Original gravity – 1.045; final gravity – 1.010; alcohol – 4.59%
  • Original gravity – 1.050; final gravity – 1.010; alcohol – 5.25%
