  • About
Mushroom picking, like fishing, is one of those relaxing ways to get away from day-to-day life and go and explore nature. I had been awaiting Peter’s call for a few weeks, as I was anxious to go and forage the first English mushroom of the year, the St George’s, which appears around St George’s Day. Peter also promised the opportunity of another little gem, the morel. These are quite rare in England but, as we discovered, they do exist.
Jason and I arrived in South wold in the early hours, to be greeted by Peter in his plus fours and bright red socks. He likes to dress for the occasion, and the first time I met him, at the Abergavenny Food Festival, he was wearing a waistcoat embroidered with mushrooms.
