I managed to catch Shaun Krijnen doing a bit of DIY on his day off, so he was probably glad of some company and a bit of a tea break, I’m sure. Shaun, like lots of oystermen I’ve come across, studied marine biology and has a masters in shellfish biology from Bangor. Although Shaun was passionate about shellfish, he struggled to find a job after leaving university, and ended up signing on. He soon got bored with that and doing nothing all day, and went to work for a small local oyster farmer, Rod Jones. He ended up buying him out in 1994 and started up his own company, Menai Oysters.
