Jamaican Hard Dough Bread – a soft yet dense white bread – is readily available wherever West Indians shop. It is often eaten along with soup.

Other popular accompaniments are ‘Johnny Cakes’, which are fried flour dumplings, or ‘Festivals’, which are deep-fried flour and cornmeal dumplings with a touch of sugar and salt and cornmeal bread.
