The capital city and Hebei

Beijing municipality (formerly known as Peking), the national capital, is carved out of Hebei province, which is largely a farming and industrial area. Beijing is a magnet for tourists, and millions of people visit each year to see the Forbidden City, the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square, and to enjoy the culinary delicacies. Within the city, the ancient settlements of Hutong — a maze of alleyways with distinctive courtyards — sit alongside today’s modern flyovers and handsome boulevards.
