The Qing Dynasty was overthrown in the early 20th century and a republic was created. Radical thinking would dominate Chinese history from now until the demise of Chairman Mao. He had reorganized the Communist Party of China (CPC) and initiated the Long March. After the Sino-Japanese War, during World War II, the CPC occupied most of the country from 1949 onwards.
By the end of the 20th century and into the 21st century, the People’s Republic of China had changed the way Chinese people thought about their history. There was much social, cultural, land and economic reform. By the 1970s, most Western nations had established diplomatic ties with the republic.
