The Chocolate Society is committed to elevating chocolate to its rightful status as one of the world’s gourmet treasures. The Chocolate Society was born over a glass of wine at the 1990 Harrogate Gift Fair out of a frustration at the mediocre chocolates available in Britain. Its founders Alan and Nicola Porter nurtured their chrysalis of a campaign for better chocolate and a desire for the public to know what ‘real’ chocolate really is and what is happening in the chocolate world. Not quite realising what they had started, the Porters were surprised at the speed with which they had caught people’s imagination and were soon flooded with enquiries. And the rest is history. Fifteen years on the Chocolate Society distributes a newsletter to its members twice a year which contains news about chocolate and the cocoa industry, who’s who in chocolate, chocolate recipes and of course a comprehensive list of ingredients and products.
