I was not a stranger to the kitchen while growing up. I often helped my mother as we prepared what always seemed to be an incredible feast. The neighborhood kids always wanted to eat dinner at our house. Our kitchen was filled with foods, flavors, and aromas that were quite different than those they had experienced.
Today, I am still preparing these meals in my kitchen, and I am happy to report that my mother approves of them all. Enjoy such classic delights as Layered London Broil with Garlic Yogurt and Pita; a delicious melding of flavors and textures that begins with a layer of crisp pita croutons followed by a garlicky yogurt sauce with tender pieces of London broil and a scattering of toasted pine nuts and fresh plump pomegranate seeds on top, or Fire-Roasted Wheat with Lamb; steamed coarse green wheat with pearl onions and tender pieces of lamb; or pan-fried tilapia covered in a spicy sauce of jalapeño, ground pine nuts, and cilantro.
