Jennifer Scism, my ex-girlfriend and the former co-owner of annisa, planted the garden at my beach house, which we once shared. The official recipe tester for this cookbook, she was and remains a better gardener than I could ever be. She cared for that land so much.

Sadly, it hasn’t made much progress lately because for the last two years I was opening a restaurant during planting time. Plus, we’ve had some bad rainy seasons and the increasing deer population ate a good deal of the yield. Now, I have a fence.
