Try not to go on drinking the red wine with the Christmas pudding. It is too sharp and can be too light. Christmas pudding is rich and needs a rich sweet wine to set it off. Buy a Sauternes or French sweet white wine, chill it well in the fridge for two or three hours and you will be astonished how delicious it tastes - even quite a cheap bottle. You could also try a rich Muscatel with the pudding, or even a cream sherry, but save port for the nuts and fruit at the end of the meal.
