Brussels sprouts are in the same family as cabbage, so, like their cousins, they benefit from the addition of something meaty and smoky, such as bacon. If you like Brussels sprouts as they are, without adding meat, just halve them and boil or steam them for about 8 minutes and then toss them with butter, salt, and pepper.
