These safety precautions should be followed in all kitchens:
  • Ensure ovens are empty before heating;.
  • After a spill on the stove top ensure that pilot lights have not been put out.
  • Make sure pan handles are not extending over the front of the burners nor turned so they sit over a heat source.
  • After removing a pan from the oven, dust the cover and handles with flour. This lets others know that they are hot.
  • Do not place hot utensils in sinks.
  • Do not fill recipients to the rim.
  • Never run in a kitchen.
  • Point the tip of your knives toward the floor when moving about.
  • Arrange your knives pointing in the same direction.
  • Do not allow foods to cool in copper pots or pans.
  • Cover spills with an absorbent cloth immediately, then clean as soon as possible.
  • Before leaving the kitchen, ensure that the stoves and ovens are off and the gas has been shut off.
