Biological Function

On its most basic biological level, the egg’s function is to provide a hospitable environment for the development of a chick. The process of creating a fertilized egg involves two things: (1) The rooster must copulate with the hen in order to deposit sperm inside the reproductive organs of the hen. (2) The hen must then produce an egg. In its early form, an egg has no shell, which allows the sperm to come in contact with the germ cell. Contact between the sperm and the germ cell causes an embryo to be formed.
