  • About
Although not regularly consumed in North America, goat meat is one of the most widely consumed red meats in other countries. It is consumed in parts of the Mediterranean, Southern Europe, the Middle East, East Africa, Southeast Asia, South and Central America, and the Caribbean. It also plays an important role in religious and cultural events in many of these regions.
Goats are the earliest domesticated animal dating back to 9000 BC in India, and pigs were domesticated near 7,000 BC. They were raised for their milk, hair, meat, and skin. Even though goats have a reputation for eating everything and it is true that their systems can digest just about anything, they are actually particular about what they eat. Like deer, they like to eat woody stems, bark, and coarse grass. They are mainly pasture raised due to their grazing preferences.
