Sus scrofa
The domestic pig appeared about 10,000 years ago in the area now known as Turkey, but its ancestor still roams the wild. The wild boar is an imposing animal, weighing up to 330 pounds (150 kg). It is covered in a dark, bristly coat of fur and has enormous tusks.

The diet of wild boars consists mainly of acorns, larvae, chestnuts, roots and young shoots, and the occasional small rodent. They are social animals and usually travel in packs, with the exception of females when they are in heat and older males, known as hermits (ermites).
