WITH THE HEAT of the day bearing down like a sultry hand on the back of your neck, you will most likely be ready for cool refreshment. Head in the direction of Meher Cold Drink House, a tiny corner café in the heart of Fort.
You’ll find Meher where Rustom Sidhwa Marg (formerly Gunbow Street) intersects Parsi Bazaar Street. The inside walls are painted a pale and calming shade of blue, which contrasts with the brash Pepsi advertising. Ignore the call of the cold fizzy drink. Even though you may think you need one, you don’t. Your choice is in fact very simple: salty or sweet. No fancy flavours here, just very good lassi, made the way it always has been. Take a seat on the hard fold-up benches, and sip. Enjoy the tang of cooling yoghurt and gaze out onto the street. Allow yourself a few quiet moments to watch the world go by, dreamily.
