To try and get some feel of the place, to try and get some impressions from people who weren’t there just to trade shares or buy money, we went to the Foreign Correspondents’ Club. I don’t think I saw any foreign correspondents. But I did overhear two spruce Americans, in their early thirties, wondering and worrying how they could rearrange their flight from Hong Kong to Malaysia now that they had discovered their present flight took them over Vietnam. Such intrepid travellers. Don’t the Americans know, hasn’t anyone told them, that the War ended twenty years ago?
