Hong Kong is supposed to be a great shopping centre, they all tell you before you go out there. You can get anything there. You can get suits made. But shopping in Hong Kong is the most infuriating thing in the world.
‘Good morning. I would like a pair of these shoes in size 43.’
‘Yes, sir. Please sit down for a moment and I will get them for you.’
Ten minutes later the assistant returns with a pair of shoes. ‘Here we are, sir.’
Before your big toe is halfway down you know your foot won’t fit, you look at the other shoe. ‘But these are size 42.’
