On the map it looked so easy. But then it always does. Just a few minutes’ drive and we’d be there in time for lunch, in one of the highest, most magical hill towns of the entire coast, perched on a rocky crag far above Nice, or was it Monte Carlo? That’s what they had told us ... and there was always the map. Anyway, it was easy. We’d start by leaving the autoroute at the sign for Roquebrune. Roquebrune, after all, was a delightful hill village – we’d been there often - and then from Roquebrune, we’d just take any of the little roads going up into the mountains until we saw one signposted to Peillon.
