Although I was totally unaware of it at the time, I was extremely fortunate growing up by the sea. I now realize that being able to pluck fish out of the ocean for free was even then- and is more emphatically now - a bit of a privilege.
Although golfing was my consuming interest from the age of eleven, something also always lured me (excuse the pun) towards the sea and sea life. My mates and their parents were all involved with fish and fishing in some way, and I just loved spending spare time on the water or at the end of the pier pulling fish out of the water. It wasn’t always that easy, though. We spent many a night on a bloody cold beach with a Tilley lamp and no rewards. I guess I just liked the sea-hunter thing, and still do.
