Stars Restaurant is big and light, urbane and cheerful, with a serious, mirrored bar down one side, selling a fine selection of 38 malt whiskies, as many beers from around the world including draught Guinness and cocktails with names like Cary Grant, Jeremiah’s 747, Spruce Goose and Mark’s Silk Pyjamas.
On today’s menu the appetisers include oysters on the half shell with shallot and black pepper sauce, fresh pasta with salmon gravlax, roast red beets and dill cream. There is also an avocado and Belgian endive salad with lobster vinaigrette and grapefruit; and a clear fish soup with prawn won ton, ginger, garlic and tree oyster mushrooms. The main courses include roast salmon with red pepper, ‘mash’ potatoes, buttered spinach, turnips and sage hollandaise; and grilled fillet of beef with caramelised onions, Swiss chard, bacon and grilled potato brochette.
