From Athens we took a marvellous mountainous route down to the south, some three hours away via Corinth and the Corinth canal - just to look at it, you understand. I couldn’t resist being a tourist there! Down to a scruffy little town called Kranidi and then the pretty natural harbour of Portokheli. From thence by hydrofoil - wonderful machine - for a quick obligatory spin around the charming island of Spetses. From there we drove, using ferries, on another equally beautiful journey for 12 hours to Meteora.
